Iran Proposes Temporary Strait of Hormuz Transit Arrangement to Oman Amid Regional Security Concerns

 

BREAKING: Iran has proposed a temporary operational arrangement to Oman to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, under which one direction of maritime traffic would pass through Iranian waters and part of the opposite route would also enter Iranian territory, according to Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi on state television.

Gharibabadi confirmed that Tehran officially rejected an alternative proposal from Oman that suggested an equal division of transit routes between the two countries. He explained that Oman's plan failed to address Iran's core security concerns during this period of regional instability.

Furthermore, the Deputy Foreign Minister warned that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed to international traffic if Muscat rejects Tehran's proposal. He added that Iran has never formally recognized the southern maritime route along Oman's coast.

This proposal highlights Tehran's intent to maintain firm operational oversight over one of the world's most critical energy shipping chokepoints while negotiating terms for de-escalation.
